How to Apply
Important information about SAT and ACT scores
Texas State University will not require SAT or ACT test scores for students ranked in the top 75% of their high school classes for admission to the university, application to the Honors College, or for consideration for Merit and Competitive Scholarships.
Ready to Apply?
You are considered a freshman student if you plan to attend Texas State the semester after high school graduation (not including summer sessions) regardless of how many dual credit or transferable college credits you've earned.
Program-Specific Requirements
Some majors and programs—including programs in the McCoy College of Business, the Department of Theatre and Dance, and the School of Music—have entry requirements that must be completed in addition to receiving admission to the university.
Application Deadlines
It is important that you submit required documents before the deadline for full consideration.

Step 1
Complete and submit an online Application for Admission
Freshman applications are available on ApplyTexas or Common App. It is important to fill out all sections of the application completely.
Step 2
Pay the application fee (eligible students may request a fee waiver or deferral)
Pay the nonrefundable $75 application fee. Fee waivers and deferrals are available to students who qualify based on financial need.
Step 3
Submit your high school transcript
Your high school's counseling office can send your official transcript directly to us or you can upload an unofficial copy. Your transcript must include your class rank or a statement from your school that says it does not rank.
Step 4
Have official college transcripts sent (if applicable)
If you have completed or are taking any dual credit or dual enrollment college courses, have your official transcript(s) sent by the institution via Parchment, Naviance, or National Student Clearinghouse. Unofficial copies will not be accepted.
Step 5
Send your SAT or ACT scores*
If you take the ACT or SAT, and have your official scores sent to Texas State. Our ACT code number is 4178 and our SAT code number is 6667. New test scores can be sent as they become available. We will take the highest composite score from one test date.
*Scores not required for students ranked in the top 75% of their class.
Step 6
Complete an essay (optional)
While we do not require an essay for admission, we highly recommend that you submit one. If you choose to submit an essay, select one of the three topics on our Admission Essay webpage. You can submit your essay with your application or by using our document uploader.
