Application Fees, Deferrals, and Waivers

NEW! Application Fee Deferrals and Waivers

Beginning Spring 2025, application fees will only be waived for first-time freshman, transfer, and returning students based on submission of FAFSA data that indicates Pell Grant eligibility. First-time freshman students may qualify for a fee deferral by submitting an ACT, SAT, NACAC, or Common App fee waiver. If approved, payment of the deferred application fee will be added to the first semester bill.

Application Fee

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions charges a nonrefundable application fee of $75 ($90 for international). If you have submitted your application through ApplyTexas or the Common App and do not qualify for a fee deferral or waiver, you may pay the application fee by logging in to the TXST Admissions Status Portal using the button below. Information about application fee deferrals and waivers is provided below.

Fee Deferral/Waiver Requests

Texas State is committed to providing fee waivers to students with demonstrated financial need. Students who qualify for a fee waiver will not be required to pay the application fee. A fee deferral will allow payment of the application fee to be postponed until the applicant is billed for their first semester, where it may be covered by financial aid received.

Application fee deferrals and waivers are subject to the approval of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and are granted based on evidence of financial need. To qualify, you must be a United States citizen, permanent resident, or a student identified under Senate Bill 1528, and demonstrate that paying the application fee causes a serious financial hardship. International applicants, non-degree seeking students, and applicants seeking a second bachelor's degree are not eligible for a fee waiver or deferral option and are required to pay the application fee at the time of application.

Students who qualify for an application fee deferral or waivers will also have their on-campus housing rent prepayment deferred by the Department of Housing and Residential Life and their New Student Orientation fee deferred by New Student and Family Experiences.

NOTE: Checking the fee deferral/waiver box on your application will not satisfy the fee deferral/waiver requirement. Submission of qualifying documentation is also required.

Qualifying for Deferral or Waiver

You may demonstrate that you qualify for an application fee deferral or waiver as follows:

Fee Deferral through ACT, SAT, NACAC, or Common App Fee Waivers (for freshman applicants only)

Fee waivers issued for ACT, SAT, NACAC, or Common App will be accepted as qualifying documents granting fee deferrals for freshman applicants. Students qualifying for a deferral will have their application fee added to their first semester bill and it may be covered by financial aid.

OR

Fee Waiver through FAFSA (for freshman, transfer, and returning student applicants)

You may qualify for a full application fee waiver based on the Student Aid Index (SAI) information we receive after you submit the FAFSA (please allow time for processing). Students who are Pell eligible will have their application fee, including any previously deferred fee, fully waived.

Submitting Documents

Before submitting fee deferral documentation, you must first submit an application for admission and activate your NetID. All documents supporting an application fee deferral request must be submitted to our office through our Document Uploader (NetID required).

These documents must be legible and filled out completely with the student information, counselor information, and HANDWRITTEN signatures.
