What do you like best about San Marcos?
Since I grew up in Central Texas, San Marcos has always been one of my favorite places to visit and bring out-of-town visitors. I especially like the glass bottom boat tours at what used to be called Aquarena Springs. The huge outlet mall(s) are also a draw for some shopping excursions! Floating the San Marcos River is always a blast, especially when Texas summer heat is bearing down on you, and it's usually less busy than some of the other near-by rivers you can float down.
Why did you choose to become an admissions counselor?
I had previous experience in higher education, and genuinely like to help people. Working to help people become students and start, or continue, a path towards a better future was appealing. Watching people's faces light up when they realize that a college degree is more obtainable than they originally thought is nothing short of heart-warming! Then seeing how doors often open for them as they go through the process and realize all of the opportunities that are available is icing on the proverbial cake!
What is your favorite tradition at Texas State?
Obviously, like most people, I love the tradition of jumping in the river after graduation. But I also like the tradition of shaking the LBJ statue's hand, because you never know what luck it may bring. I have heard some neat stories of things that happened after students stopped to shake his hand before exams or other events!
